    Впервые составленная карта дисков политенных хромосом (Drosophila melanogaster) - на пяти хромосомных плечах (правые и левые плечи 2-й и 3-й аутосом и Х-хромосома) изначально было выделено около 5000 дисков, объединенных в 100 секций, впоследствии число дисков (с учетом вероятных артефактов или же нахождения дублетов) неоднократно переоценивалось - окончательная цифра пока не установлена, хотя порядок величины остается прежним; впервые данная карта опубликована К. Бриджесом в 1935.
